Google Goes Toon to explain Chrome

WARNING: Google installs Google Update without telling you.
Nice job Google. See update at bottom.

Toon it up!
Huh? Yea, exactly my reaction. You just have to wonder who the target audience is for this. Google has decided that we are all so stupid, we need ‘toon-age!
Toons explain Google Chrome. [Ed Note: I like Scott McCloud -- the writer -- I even read his book on comics. This is not an attack on him.]
But you may notice that when you go through the comic online that it’s a bit clunky, this is because the pages are actually designed to be printed. It is not a webcomic, says Scott. “It was designed as a printed comic for journalists and bloggers….We’ll put something even better together soon.”
Now don’t get me wrong I am all for using visual aids for explanation, but ‘toons? In fairness, Google also has some videos, as well. However it seems this a response to many people questioning Google over the “why” of Chrome, not so much the “how” and “what.”
What is scary is that some on the left coast in the techno-elite think this is normal.
During the seminar one of the breakout groups reported that the process of developing a compelling presentation has much in common with, say, writing a children’s book. That is, you must know your audience and tell the story — and teach the lesson — in a creative way that connects with them in their world while still being true and honest to the content. The emphasis, then, is on the audience (or reader).
Anyone wonder why the vast majority of techies for libs? Now you know, they think we are children to be “reached.” We dont’ get that Google Chrome is the most boss, and bitchin thing around; so they write a cartoon to reach us ‘where we live.’ Very nice Google. Everyday you — and other liberals like Obama and Oprah — continue to show your arrogance and elitism.
I previously talked about Chrome here, there is a download link at that post as well.
Google adds software you don’t want
Google is playing us for fools. So much for the honest and ethical Google.
To Remove it, you need to edit the registry. They key will be here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
You will also have to remove or rename the file which is here:
C:\Documents and Settings\*YOURUSERNAME*\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Update
When you use Chrome, it will restart GU, but does not seem to put the key back in. I am sure that will change in a future “upgrade.”

This cartoon is simply a marketing campaign. When you have a product that’s meant to be consumed by the general public (like, say, a web browser), then it needs to be marketed to the general public. And when you market to the general public, the trick is to create an advertisement that can be understood by those without high school diplomas without alienating those with P.H.D.s.
I’ve seen cartoons used to great effect as marketing tools by, of course, cereal companies and other organizations that target children, but also by Virgin America airlines and that bear that tells us to stop causing forest fires (Smoky or Smokey, I think).
So instead of doing the typical conservative thing and acting like there’s some sort of group of “elitists” that are sitting in a Manhattan high-rise in tailored suits sipping espressos and talking about how they can sell their product to the dim-witted American populace, why not pause and think about what a company like Google is after. All they’re looking for is money, and for them the best way to make money is for a lot of people to use their product. The best way to achieve widespread use is to target your marketing to the lowest common denominator. It’s makes business sense.
Hmm, seems you make my point with more words, and more insults.
Well, firstly Google says it’s geared toward Bloggers and Journos. You are a blogger, as am I; and sometimes I whip out my Fedora and play Journo. The idea that we are all meatheads (they must get this idea from dealing with Blogspot, maybe?) and need a ‘toon to ’splain this product is offensive. Even more offensive is the idea that the general public (the uneducated rubes, you see us as) needs an idiot-proof explanation of a browser that is not offensive to Ph.Ds. Hmm F U Ph.Ds, since most of the world’s problems are caused by Ph.Ds anyway. I don’t care if they are offended. Secondly it’s foolhardy to creat a ‘one size fits all’ approach. — ironically we were discussing this over at the Opera forums yesterday —
My point exactly. The problem is that it’s geared toward two groups, and the appearance is that we are morons who can only think in pictures about a browser. The fact that we all use browsers, and there is nothing new in Chrome, followed by this insult; reminds me of the Obama campaign. “All hat, no cattle.”
You said that cereal was marketed to children, not me.
You should take your own advice. They are out to control the internet, just as M$ controls the desktop. Have you been on the internet long?
By insulting them? This doesn’t work for Obama or liberals; why would it work or arrogant Baysters?
You must not run a business, that or you are in some marketing program at a liberal institution of higher indoctrination.
No, it doesn’t. Looks like Google has you in their pocket, or you are just the typical lefty hater.
I am amazed at how arrogant the left is. They offend people and then try to “handle” you by telling you that you are stupid and they know what they are doing and it’s what’s best. We are just supposed to shut up and take it in the back side. No thanks.
Good job marks jasckzon for praching the consurvative practices! DOn’t want them damn liberals telling us what to do, like going to colledge or wiping our asses!
No doubt the liberal education establishment is glad you are displaying you mad intellectual skillz. I am sure they are happy they were able to edumacate you.
