It’s a busy day here. Red Cross caught “red handed”. San Ysidro to be easier to get through. Virtual Border Fence a failure. Huge Pot bust in El Cajon and Ohio. Sempra being energetic. Vegas has a Ricin scare; Feds say it’s not terrorists related, even though the Anarchist Cookbook was in the room.
– San Diego –
The Red Cross says it will ask for refunds from local Hotel Operators, and openly account for money paid for rooms that it did not use during the San Diego Wildfires last year. Red Cross admits to Wildfire Lodging Errors Excellent timing; it’s Red Cross Month.
San Ysidro border crossing is being expanded to accommodate the high levels of traffic through the Border Entry. SD Mayor Jerry Sanders has lobbied for the expansion since taking office, he says for economic reasons. He does not however support Border security. The former SDPD Chief allows “sanctuary city” type restrictions upon the dept.
Virtual Border Fence gets approval, but fails tests. Border fence does not meet the objectives originally set. Project is scaled back. Most see the virtual fence as a ham-handed attempt to appear tough on security.
An actual fence running the entire length of the U.S.-Mexico border would not only protect would-be illegal immigrants from unnecessary harm, but would also protect the Border Patrolmen whose job it is to secure our frontier. A virtual fence, by contrast, might protect skittish senators from the ill-considered criticism of the liberal media and liberal interest groups, but it would also perpetuate unnecessary risks for illegal border-crossers and Border Patrolmen alike.
Sempra wants to build a cross border Electric Generation facility. This would put Energy security even more at risk Seems it’s easier to build in Mexico than California. Then again maybe not, Sempra LNG port is running 30 to 60 days behind schedule. Also the Sunrise Powerlink plan is in final hearings.
Missing Pastor found dead in Tijuana. Rev. Charles Lanier, Pastor of Unity Fellowship Church in City Heights was reported missing since 18 Feb. His vehicle was found at the San Ysidro border crossing on 22 Feb. Cause is said to be a self inflicted drug overdose. While Lanier is a recovering drug addict, I question the veracity of the report. Tijuana is home to some shady characters. He was dead for more than a day when he was found.
Father and Son arrested for shipping drugs cross country.
Police got a tip Wednesday that a suspicious package was being shipped from El Cajon to Hilliard, Ohio, El Cajon police Lt. Tim Henton said. He said the package contained 45 pounds of marijuana.
El Cajon resident James Ross Wallace, 57, also was arrested in Ohio on suspicion of marijuana trafficking after authorities seized a rifle and $38,000 in cash in his hotel, Henton said.
Meanwhile, El Cajon police searched Wallace’s Dehesa Road home Friday evening and seized 10 guns, a pound of marijuana, and packaging material, Henton said. Wallace’s 32-year-old son was cited on suspicion of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana.
Hmm, something tellls me he got off lucky.
Speaking of East County, there is a boil water alert in affect for those in the Padre Dam Municipal Water District.
– Las Vegas –
Ricin was found in a Las Vegas (an extended stay) Motel Room along with firearms and an “anarchist cookbook”. The man who occupied the room was in the hospital for the last two weeks. The Hotel started eviction proceedings after he did not pay rent. A family member came to clean out the room at the request of the Motel. They found the Ricin, and animals that had not had food for water for at least a week.
The FBI says this is not a terrorist incident. Why am I not believing this?
Universal Detection Technology has some info on Ricin. Reports say the Ricin section was “highlighted”, which could mean tabbed, or marked, or even marked with a high-lighter.
