Bird Rock Bail Unchanged
Jan 28th, 2008 by Mark

Emery Kauanui Jr
Seth Cravens was in court today to attempt to have his bail reduced. It was denied. He is accused with others for the murder of Emery Kauanui Jr.
Not so rich anymore
Although having paid $175,000 to Pacific Law Center (a well known local private law firm) and living in La Jolla (very upscale neighborhood) Seth Craven’s family is now relying on the public defender’s office for assistance.
His new lawyer, Deputy Alternate Public Defender Mary Ellen Attridge, said Cravens’ bail should be lowered to a level his family could afford. She said the Cravens family paid the Pacific Law Center, his previous lawyers, $175,000 to represent him, but Attridge said in court that the firm had done little work to show for it. The Cravens family is trying to get some of the money back but that could take time, she said.
Pacific Law Center runs ads day and night on television here in San Diego County. They strike me as a law firm that deals mostly with low level cases. I doubt they have anyone who can handle a Capital Case. They are subject of an article at the UT. It appears that they have a long history of deceptive and high-pressure tactics.
Not So Golden
Privileged Brats go off the trolley tracks. Many have characterized Emery Kauanui as a ‘golden boy’. He wasn’t. In reality Kauanui was no different than the four charged with his murder. Just goes to show, if you live a rowdy life you most likely will die a rowdy death.

5 against one is what will have all these guys going to prison for a long time. Bullys and gangs from a bunch of rich kids, how pathetic.
[...] Bird Rock Bail Unchanged [...]
I am sick of hearing the bullsh*t defense of Craven’s family. His parents clearly did a horrible job raising this overly aggressive meat-head and they are completely delusional and oblivious to the monster that he truly is. I hope he spends the rest of his life in prison and I hope his family suffers. I hated Mormons before but now I really hate them, especially the ones who plague the world by having 14 kids.
[MARK: seems to me the only plague on this world is those who hold ignorant views of religion in general, and some religions specifically. To call children a plague shows just how depraved our culture has become]
What is wrong with you people? Haven’t you heard of overpopulation?
[MARK: Yes it is one in a long line of lies trotted out by left wing nut jobs to destroy our country, our way of life, and our success. It was/is a con, just like global warming]
No one wants more Mormons in this world so stop having so many kids you selfish bastards!
[MARK: seems to me Mormons do more good than surfers. I am guessing that many would love to see fewer surfers. Did you ever think about that?]
5 against 1. How many foolish boys did it take to rest 1 man? That just goes to show they wasn’t man enough for the situation. Shame on thier parents. Shame on these ignorant boys. Shame on the City for not charging a group called Bird Rock Bandits as a gang. I say boys because obviously being a young adult doesnt fit the description of them. It is sad to hear that another soul has been taken over what? A spilled drink? Alcohol does miracles doesn’t it? Even the government can’t understand how DEADLY alcohol is. And its these type of fools that give liquor and alcohol a bad name. Can’t handle the liquid don’t touch it.
Besides, I live here. And this is not the only act these fools have done while trying to make a name of themselves. “Bird Rock Bandits.” How pathetic. And what makes it worse is that the Judge dismissed the gang charges….So I guess sarcastically saying, me and a group of guys should get together and name our group then go around beating up people while drunk….and so we call ourselves a gang, but in the judges eyes WE AREN’T? I vote for LIFE in prison. They should all be punished for these actions and be made an example out of. It is not a mistake. It wasn’t an accidental. It wasn’t a fluke. It was for fun and pleasure…..And if they get less than 10 years then hell with it we should go around beating up people to DEATH and not worry about doing LIFE in prison!!!!!!! God bless the loved ones of EMERY. No worries Ohana….these men will get it one way or another. The soul of Emery will live forever…in all the Oceans to the air we breath and the Earth we walk on!!!!!!
you do not read the courts papers, these kids agreed to fight, meaning eric house and emery; one to one; on the phone: emery beat up Eric who lost a tooth, no on touched emery he had not a single mark on his body said the autopsy, get off your histeria , what killed him was seth’s punch the others did not touch him, he dies from falling back and striking his head
you are hysterical and wrong
Not so sure I believe what they are saying. “Agreed to fight” is a typical response in a situation like this. It may be true, however I am not so sure any of them are trustworthy, and this appears to be self serving.
In order to form an opininion, one must read everything; court papers, depositions etc and examine all the articles ; good, bad and indifferent , then one can have a better idea.
Emery and we grieve his death was a fighter like some of the other kids, actually he was the only one on parole for agressions, the four other had a past , some worse and some better than the rest
One kid did not and that was Hank Hendricks and Emery’s mom is not suing his parents because he did not have a violent past ; read the LA Times article by Joel Sappel where he speaks of each one of these kids , on page six he talks about Hank Hendricks who was he says ” a model citizen” and mr Joel Sapell wonders why the DA arrested him
Read the Cornell times article by Sy Brozinsky an old friend of Hank since they were eight years old, he called him ” the pride of his high school ” where he excelled in three sports; basketball, football and baseball , he says that Hank taught him how to send a curved ball
No one ganged up on Emery, he faught one to one with Eric House, then when they got up Seth threw a sucker punch for something Emery said
Emery did not have any marks on his body showing that no one kicked him while down, he died from one punch and one fall on the back of his head which was not planned
Still people who live by the sword die by the sword it seems
Doesn’t change the fact that he died due to the fight. At the least he is guilty of Manslaughter. As for “reading everything”; how can you pass judgement since YOU have not read or heard everything? That’s called a trial.
How can anyone say Hank Hendricks was a “model citizen?” The guy was a thug, just like his buddies. The LAT printing it, does not make it so; in most cases, makes it suspect. Even more suspect is a puff piece by an “old friend”. Please, spare me.
BTW, if you provide links it’s much easier to follow your orders to read something.

Hank Hendricks lived in Natick mass close to Doug Flutie his friend, how could he be a gang member, he was absent from the scene
Jude Heinron received close to a hundred letters on behalf of Hank
Hendricks; from Hendrickson of the New York giants partner to Niclaus
of golf fame, Doug Flutie, doctors, army officers , trainers, mothers, friends saying that he was a model citizen with a clear criminal record
These important people judged him as being good and they are not easily fooled
He was on the dean’s list at UNH and played football, he had arrived the day before for a rest , he did not belong to any group , he was too darn busy to do anything in gangs, he did not have the time of day as a very productive individual
Judge people one by one , not as a pack , anyway the papers are saying that; Emery poured beer on Eric House and argued over the phone with Eric House to ” have a fight” Emery came out of his condo and took off his shirt and broke Eric House’s tooth, then argued with Seth Craven who gave him a punch and Emery fell to the pavement and hurt his head, end of story
Thats why the judge gave a light sentence because he heard the
” truth” not a lot of headlines garbage
Luckily the papers have changed the story and the truth will come out during Set trial then we will all know
Poor Emery died and his poor mom is in pain and we grieve but let the truth stand
Hank, was a BACKUP at UNH (that’s not the same as a backup at USC, Texas, Notre Dame). He was also NOT the wonderful person you proclaim him to be. Letters of reference are nice, but no one sends in the ones that don’t say what they want them to say.
The parents were complete failures — as are most parents these days — ; however it’s clear these kids thought they were special and above the law. Quite frankly, none of them strike me as useful individuals. Hanks MIGHT have been someday, but I doubt it.
Oh please, get real. It gets worse.
He’s dead, dummy. It’s too late.
This will be broken withing 6 months, if not less.
As for the “gang” charges; it’s clear that they were a gang, but not in the meaning of the statute. Another example of overcharging by Bonnie Dumanis.
this is another opinion by a different person
we are a group who know these kids, some were productive and busy
Eric House was in college, Hendricks was in college on the dean’s list as a top student : these two were not in any gang we know them
Osuna and Seth are another story : this is not a pack of wolves but plain people and they act independently
Hendricks lived in Boston for three years he had no records which were criminal neither did eric House but emery did
We do not beleive that Eric House did either, he was a victim himself
he was bloodied and lost a tooth and the fall was an accident
you can read the papers at least since the the judge pronounced his sentence he gave a light sentence showing that it was not a premeditated murder but an accident and some of the parents are not sued as being bad parents , thats also in the papers
Seth was the only one with a gangster blog all to himself
If you have an interest in ANY kind of a case you should read your newspapers and keep abreast
“birds of a feather stick together” is a very old saying, that is borne out time and again. It’s even more ironic in this case.
Oh, and O.J. Simpson was a “top” student as U.S.C.; that didn’t stop him from murdering his ex-wife, and most recently engaging in an armed assault on several people in a Las Vegas hotel room.
Anyone else notice that a large number or “dean’s list” members are either in places they shouldn’t be, thus winding up dead; or they are being arrested? Yea, me also. The “Dean’s List” isn’t what it used to be. Attending college is not proof of usefulness either.
Oj Simpson brutalized his wife, he had an history for doing that.
Seth Craven has an history as well but no jail time
Emery was the only one who did jail time and was on probation and was going to be arrested again for breaking probation, the cops knew him well and went to his condo often , they knew him for bad behavior
Osuna had an history but not recorded
We do not know about Yanke
Eric House had very little close to none history of violence, he was an acheiver and a doer
Hendricks did not even have a driving ticket , if you acheive and he did
you use your brains, not your fists because you have such a heavy schedule that there is no time for busting people heads
In order to understand a country, a person you always go back to their past and then you understand where they come from
They also knew his buddies, you know the “bird rock bandits?” The fact that they hung out together is proof they were all alike.
As for Emery, well I have written about him, and made it clear he was not the “good guy” everyone is making him out to be.
Still, they all f’d up their lives. People who hang out together, do so for a reason. It seems surf, dope, booze, and thuggery were the common threads here. The all had a history or thug behavior, that includes ‘golden boy’ Hendricks and ‘clean’ House.
It doesn’t matter what their history was, it’s what they did that matters. But nice try.
Hendrick was in Natick Mass for three years, he had no clue of their life style, he arrived the day before from Boston, would you say, he was a little out of that group ? They asked him out because he had known them in high school , he was not a close participant how could he?
I have to admit that I am impressed with the level of spin being put out by the Hendricks camp. Not sure how many people are going to buy it; I am guessing none.
If he was so removed from the group, then why was he out partying with them — on his second day back — ? If he is not part of them anymore (other than almost 4 months every year when he came back for summer break, and did what they did in high school, presumably) then why was he with them on his second night back? Sounds like someone hanging out with old friends that HE GREW UP WITH, and spent his life around, and still kept in touch with, and knew quite well. This would include the High School years that I hear were VERY ACTIVE criminally.
More importantly, so what? Oh wait, he tried to cover up the killing and protect his friends. Wait, they weren’t friends they were long lost acquaintances who needed help covering up a crime; and he being the ‘good boy’ that he is, helped out. What a crock of crap.
He knew EXACTLY how they behaved, and he went back to relieve his glorious High School days of drunken stupidity. It didn’t bother him one bit they were going out and getting drunk, fighting, and engage in all manner of reprehensible behavior. If he was “changed” as you allege, he would have never gone to the bar, or to the house to fight. He would left before it went badly. He didn’t, he behaved just like he did in High School.
Your analogy is like saying a Blood or a Crip is not a Blood or a Crip because he was in Alaska for 3 years.
Actions NOT place signify who you are are. Even if he was on the road to being a ‘good person;’ unlikely in my mind, he still did what he did with his ol’ running buddies. That speaks clearly as to who he is, not what he could be. Even if he did not know how they behaved (come on!) he would have left when it started getting out of hand, or even looked like it was getting out of hand. He didn’t.
he stayed in Boston for summer breaks as his parents lived in Natick near Doug Flutie for several years
Oh well if you insist!!!!!!
Oh well if you insist!!!!!!you have a mind set as we see
he stayed in Boston for summer breaks
You left out the part about how he grew up in La Jolla, and went to La Jolla HS with his thug buddies.
I still remember the people from my High School days who were trouble. I don’t need to be reminded when I go back home. I sure as hell don’t go out drinking with them.
Now there is a role model. Pot-head, and irresponsible drinker. Guess it’s too much of a cliche to call him a lover and a fighter, as well.
For those wondering how a punk like this meets Doug Flutie, you can read about it here:
Doug and his thug protege
Seems the UNH coach saw Hendricks for what he was. I am guessing Hendricks had an attitude problem, and/or he made bad decisions. Hmmm.
Seems to me the coach was right not to play him. Off the field decisions usually reflect on the field as well. It’s even more so for QBs.
I have lost a great deal of respect for Doug. If my daughter were dating someone from the Hendricks family, I would make sure he got of glimpse of my shotgun, and saw me shoot it; just to get the point across.
I also have to wonder about the family’s move to Boston. It strikes me as very odd, and creepy; almost like they are “hangers on.” — can’t wait for the ‘they went there for their son’, as if that makes it any better –
MTV should do an episode of “Busted” about Hendricks. Maybe that will drive home the point that being a punk, drunk, pot-head is nothing but a dead end. Then again, I don’t think MTV really cares to make a difference.
Okay , you are entitled to your opinions
we will not post anymore
Read what i wrote about Hendricks on Hendricks profile, the guy is not guilty as i have known him for quite a while and i have profiled many people; the kid is not guilty as we know him well
[NOTE: this commment is written by the same person who is calling himself "dude" and "nikki" and "anne flori." A person so gutless, they don't even list their real email address. Clearly they must be lying. Gee what a shock considering their friends are convicted felons who murdered someone.]
read yard baker college football photos ; the second comment 8 by butlerhenriw may 07 2008 ? from a UNH coordinator
No several people use this address not just one
and it does not befits you to say that
[Ed Note: I love how some people will desperately spin in the vain hope of deflecting the truth from themselves. Same IP, same email, same phony url; same person. Busted, deal with it.]
there were eighty letters in defense of these people so that you think that these eigthy people do not care anymore ? there is no desperation anywhere as we are happy about the outcome
[Mark: Death Row inmates get offers of marriage; does that mean that they are good people? Does that mean they were innoncent of that which they were convicted? Your buddy is a convicted felon. Don't you get it?]
IT COMES OUT IN COURT THAT EMERY AND ERICHOUSE AGREED TO FIGHT
IT ALSO SAYS THAT EMERY CALLED HOUSE ON HIS PHONE AND ASKED HIM TO FIGHT
SO THERE
THE TRUTH IS STRONGER THAN EXTRAVAGANT ACCUSATIONS BASED ON SMOKE
Agreeing to fight DOES NOT absolve you of killing someone.
let me throw in some history .the violence here dates back to the 60’s.windansea surfers, macmeda destruction, bird rock bandits all evolve from the same mindset.i know for a fact this kind of behavior has been condoned for fifty years.macmeda destruction has even had a float in the la jolla christmas parade for gods sake.windansea surf club, macmeda destruction company, bird rock bandits, just a different name for a bunch of thugs.did they not see something like this coming.personally im not a bit surprised.these spoiled kids have been getting away with this far too long.lets hear from windnsea surf club, macmeda and the rest of motley crew.just to let them know….i have some names i would call these thugs but profanity will get me censored.i would love to hear what windnsea surf club has to say.wouldnt you? sincerely rb
