Mass Gov “jail poker players”
Dec 26th, 2007 by Mark
The Governor of Massachusetts proves that Democrats are hypocrites. The Gov wants to imprison anyone who plays online poker while he expands in state gaming.
Even as Governor Deval Patrick seeks to license three resort casinos in Massachusetts, he hopes to clamp down on the explosion in Internet gambling by making it illegal for state residents to place a bet on line. He has proposed jail terms of up to two years and $25,000 fines for violators.
Yep, you read that correctly. Those oh so tolerant liberals are out to put poker players in prison for not falling in line with the Dems. You either play in state or we put you in jail. Nice.
Oh it gets better, the Dems are now in league with the Casino — big business — interest. Hmmm.
Playing Favorites
In a move to favor “big” business — I thought only Republicans did that — he has inserted a section to make it illegal to play poker at home; while making it legal to play — true games of chance with horrible odds — almost anywhere in Mass.
Massachusetts Lottery officials are plotting to vastly expand sales by peddling scratch tickets in mega-chain stores such as Dunkin’ Donuts, Home Depot and CVS, in the state’s latest bid to use gambling revenue to help close a $1 billion budget deficit.
Yes, you can gamble in Dunkin’ Donuts — and a deal in works with CVS –; but not in your web browser in your own home. What’s next Gov, no more sex except when you decide it? Will you now outlaw homosexuality? Oh wait you hate straight normal people. My bad.
The effort to pervade the state with Lottery sales coincides with Gov. Deval Patrick’s push to legalize casino gambling in Massachusetts. Both proposals are driven in part by the need to generate more revenue as the state faces its second consecutive $1 billion-plus budget deficit.
“Massachusetts faces significant structural budget challenges,” Patrick said during legislative hearing on his casino plan last week. “Projections for the coming year show shortfalls in Lottery funds so vital for local services, and the forecast is for slower overall revenue growth.”
We really are business thinkers
This really has me cracking up:
During a recent budget hearing, Cahill told lawmakers that the only sure-fire way to increase Lottery revenue is to expand the number of sales outlets. He mentioned Dunkin’ Donuts as an example of a business with large revenue potential, although officials said they have not developed any specific projections.
So let’s extend that thinking. Isn’t the only way to have more father-less children, teenage births, and abortions; is to expand the sex ed — along with condom dispensing, abortion counseling, and removal of parental authority — in the schools? Even better this also drives government funded abortions. How about drug use — which means expanding drug counseling paid for by your tax dollars –; we can hand out needles and exchange them, and we can “legalize” pot. How do Dems get more votes? By “legalizing” illegals. Motor Voter rocks the Dems world.
Anyone else see a pattern here? Or should I say correlation?
My favorite quote:
“While we want to expand our business , we also want to combat compulsive gambling and expand access to those services,” he said.
So lottery funds are spent for fighting compulsive gambling? How about fighting compulsive spending by politicians? Why is that the only way to fight something is by expanding it? Oh BTW your are not a business.
Just the facts ma’am
Let’s look at some facts here:
-
The deficit is not due to a lack of taxation. It’s due to out of control liberal nanny state spending.
-
More lottery tickets sold, means more poor will need more government services as they are the ones who buy them. [If Mass funded all "poor" services this way I would go for it. It means that the "poor" are paying there own way. We know this can't happen, as the "poor" are nothing but leeches, and can only get money from those who actually work. This is why Casinos are in the mix]. BTW, why are those on government programs allowed to buy anything other than food? [no beer, wine, and soda do not count as food.]. Why do they have cars, cable, big TVs? [see this nanny state "lottery winner" for details]
-
Banning online poker will only make criminals out honest people, and will make it even more likely they either move out of Mass — a good thing — or vote you out of office — even better –, or — the best — wake up and see how stupid liberalism truly is.
-
Since lotteries can not fund the massive nanny state programs, casinos are needed. They however may not move there, due to the high taxation. Even with casinos, the problem is still nanny state programs that have an ever increasing budget.
-
How is bringing in more casinos, and lottery stands in ubiquitous places, while banning play at home; going to decrease compulsive gambling? This is the same idiotic thinking that gets us “needle exchanges” in NYC, government run “shooting galleries” in San Francisco”,condom dispensing in Maine — among others–, and sex ed taught to 8 years olds. Idiotic.
-
There is only so much money in Mass; when you reach 100% taxation, the liberals will in Nirvana. It’s Socialism they seek. They believe we are too stupid to manage our own lives, and that only they can do it for us. We should all be equally miserable while they reap the benefits of the power over us. No thanks. Fortunately the Government will collapse before that is reached.
-
Even I don’t think the people of Mass are this stupid. I hope they don’t prove me wrong.
-
The “Big Dig”; do I really need to say more? If they can’t build a road, how can they manage anything.
How sad that so many think the government is out to save them, when it’s only about consolidating power in the hands of liberals.
Isn’t it time to wake up people? If you are worried about your right to do as you please in your own home; I urge you to join today.
