Black Friday

Countdown to Christmas
So-called Black Friday. [I have never understood why the media termed it that. I have to assume it’s because of their hatred of all things commerce.] has begun. The "outlet malls" here opened at Midnight, Kohl’s opened at 4am, Walmart at 5am, J.C. Penny also, and Target — the store that hates the Salvation Army and loves the Islamo-fascists — opened at 6am; the normal stores — several surprisingly — opened at 8am.
People were camping out Thursday night — forgoing friends and family — awaiting the opening of stores on Friday. Sick, and disgusting. No item this year is a "must have" or even buzz worthy; and yet they queued up. Isn’t the media telling us the economy is in a depression?

Today’s Games: Texas v Texas A&M. Go Horns!
Sadly this is most likely Dennis Franchione’s last game at A&M. Unless he beats Texas today — not likely — he is gone. Texas is looking to showcase itself for a bowl bid, and possible BCS improvement if OU loses which would put UT into the Big 12 Championship game.
USC defeated a vastly overrated ASU team last night. No surprise there.
PRO
Yesterday saw the Packers, Cowboys, and the Colts beat up on some weak competition. Who is making up the schedule in the NFL? Do they even consider the teams before they pick the teams? I realize that the Detroit Lions started Thanksgiving day football, so they will always play, fine. Match them up with a team so they can be competitive. Ditto for the other games. Why on this day when people who don’t normally watch football are watching, would you put on less than competitive games? Monday Night Football has become all but un-watchable, due mainly to poor scheduling which makes those fools who run the game broadcast want to "spice it up" with stupid camera angles, and sideline eye candy that’s not. I hope Roger Goodell, can straighten this out.
Then you have the idiocy of NFL network. The NFL is wanting an exhorbant — say cable folks — amount of money for rights to carry the network. No one really wants to watch the NFL 24/7 mostly due to crappy programming, and too many sports channels that suck as it is.
Roger Goodell is not helping with his insistance on pushing the network. The Colts game yesterday was no the NFL network, which means that most likely less than 1 million people saw it. Sometimes I wonder if Goodell has any clue what he is doing. It does seem that the number of games is down this year. I wonder if DishTV were upset that so many games were being covered that their yearly promotion was devalued?
Turkey, Turkey, Turkey
The turkey was good, and it was a nice day. Good to be alive, and live in the land of the free.

I think it’s called Black Friday because the retailers “get into the black” - in other words, they make enough profit to get out of the red.
