Union Trib on warpath against Repubicans
Nov 19th, 2007 by Mark
These people are unreal. It’s on the front page! Guess you have to congratulate them on their honesty.
What is the ploy? Read more here:
The Republicans want to modify the way the Electoral Votes are counted.
The initiative would award California’s electoral votes by congressional district rather than the current winner-take-all system based on the statewide popular vote. Had this been in effect in 2004, President Bush would have picked up an additional 22 electoral votes, rendering moot the all-night vigil over Ohio’s 20 electoral votes.
No more winner take all. I can’t say this is a bad thing. Maine and Nebraska do that also. The usual smear tactics are in affect.
Democrats denounce the initiative as a “right-wing power grab” and vow they will spare no expense to torpedo the measure if it qualifies. Early polls show its support to be under 50 percent.
Gee what a shock, the liberals don’t want your voice to be heard. Weren’t they the ones complaining about the Electoral College in 2000? Yes, they were.
“Our approach is, anytime someone is trying to rig the system by changing the way California votes, you’ve got to take it seriously,” said Democratic political consultant Chris Lehane, who is directing the opposition effort.
So when liberals use the courts to enact legislation or to get their guy elected, it’s being a good citizen. When the Republicans attempt to change anything it’s rigging the system and a power grab. Can you say "hello Kettle"?
Bruce Cain, director of the Institute of Governmental Studies at the University of California Berkeley, said he could agree with Issa if the system were changed nationwide.
That just kills me. Don’t these liberals get it? States are autonomous. Idiots. Anyway the real problem is this:
Issa maintained that to brand the initiative as partisan is to assume that a Republican presidential candidate can never carry California.
The Dems are really scared of losing their power. Sounds like entrenched special interests are on a power hold. If we want to allocate our votes one way or another that is our choice. It’s called Democracy, and the liberals hate it.
