Day 5 - Morning
Oct 25th, 2007 by Mark
How are we doing?
Everyone is drained. Qualcomm is flush with supplies — yea us! Channel 8 has raised almost a quarter million dollars to aid the Salvation Army. Sweet.
Bush is flying in 0930 PDT. UPDATE: Bush arrived and is screwing up traffic.
If you are looking for assistance and are not sure where to go, try this page: USA dot GOV — California fires. It has some good links.
Also the state has some fairly updated info on the fires here.

Clean up tips
- Do not use leaf blowers, vacuums to remove ash
- Avoid washing ash into storm drains
- Wear gloves, long-sleeved shirts and pants
- Wash ash off skin immediately
- Wear dust masks (preferably rated N-95, P-100)
- Lightly mist ash before cleaning
- Dispose of ash in trash bags
As for number 2, just where else do you expect it to go? The next rain will put it all in the water anyway. Not sure putting the ash in trash bags is such a great idea either.
Good News
More areas are opening up. Olive Hill in Fallbrook is open. On the news today, they showed the Fallbrook fire area. There were hoses that were actually melted on the street. It looks like it was really ugly
Humidity is up, that’s good. The winds are light. As much as I would like a breeze to move out the ash and keep us cool, it’s better that the winds don’t go nuts. It looks like we may be out of the worst of it.

Once again I want to point out the difference between the San Diego area response and the New Orleans failure. Several fire fighters have commented on how friendly and helpful the locals have been.
“I have never been this well treated on any strike team before”
~~ Unknown fire fighter from Santa Rosa
People have offered their homes for showers and places to sleep, along with food. Doing this while their community is in crisis. Speaks highly of the area.
Bad News
Two more bodies found in Poway. That sucks. Twelve fire fighters have been hurt so far.
–
It appears that two fires in Orange and San Bernadino counties are confirmed as arson. WTF is wrong with some people? I hear that prosecuting arson cases is all but impossible.
–
Illegal aliens caught stealing relief supplies. Did you really think this was not going to happen? The weasel paper — LA Times — calls them “undocumented Mexican Immigrants.” How the hell did they immigrate? They didn’t; but can’t be honest in a liberal paper, can we?
San Diego police responded to a call about alleged theft from the evacuation center and encountered six people in a van who didn’t speak English and didn’t have California driver’s licenses, Foreman said. The police officers called the Border Patrol, who arrived at the stadium and made the arrests, he said. Foreman said the immigrants admitted they were Mexican citizens and that they were stealing.
“[A]lleged theft”, excuse me? It’s either stolen or it’s not. Why the weasel language? Oh yeah, liberal ethos of ‘no one is guilty except Republicans’. UN. REAL. I will give the illegal aliens credit; at least they were honest about their crimes. Too bad we can’t say the same about the Times.
–
The hate-fest of lefty loons is starting. Maybe for once the liberals can be human beings for awhile? Guess not. The radical group “Friends of the Earth” says: “Don’t let Bush Burn California.”
I talk about it here. Some people will do anything to destroy Bush. You lost in 2000, again in 2004; time to get over it.
