Evening Update
Oct 23rd, 2007 by Mark
UPDATE 2015PDT: While driving to the store, I was listening to the myriad of news conferences. Most said nothing. Some said even less. One however was astounding in it’s utter and sheer stupidity. Yea only one. The School guy (whoever he was) made the comment that the Head School Guy in Sacramento called and said the the schools that are close would not lose any money due to closure. The days off would not affect their average daily attendance, and the schools would be reimbursed any days they lose (from the feds) by the state. Well hot damn! I can go to sleep, now. My only concern was that those poor school districts would not get their pound of flesh. Unreal. The only people who care about this tidbit, are the unionistas and their sheeple. Un. Real.
Julian is being evacuated.
Red Flag Warnings (hot, dry and windy) till Wed 3pm.
Evening Update
Things are looking up.
Union-Tribune finally got their map up and working
Evacuations have been lifted for Carlsbad (south of Palomar airport road), Solana Beach, and Chula Vista.
The Salvation Army and News 8 have opened a phone bank for donations. The phone bank will be open between 5pm to 7pm. Call 858-570-1001. You can also make donations through their site by clicking the button on the right of this article.
However there are fires burning on Camp Pendleton. No info as of 1730PDT.
Also their is a mandatory evacuation notice for Hwy 67 corridor from Ramona to Lakeside.
The sun is going down, and giving off a weird color to everything. It’s been “Golden Hour” almost all day. Except for the ash, smoke, smell, and fires.
Deaths this week
Five deaths have occurred this week during the fire. These are those that have some connection to the fire. Five is not bad, zero would have been better.
Thomas James Varshock, 52, of Tecate, died on his property during the Harris Fire on Sunday.
Alla M. Robinson, 91, was an in-patient at Fallbrook Hospital who died of natural causes while in the process of being evacuated to Tri-City Medical Center on Monday.
Suzanne Elizabeth Casey, 62, died from a fall at a restaurant on Monday after being evacuated from her Rancho Bernardo home.
Donald Swarting, 92, died of natural causes at the Mount Miguel Covenant Village Nursing Home in Spring Valley on Tuesday after becoming unresponsive during the evacuation process.
June E. Brewer, 95, died of natural causes in her room at an Old Town hotel on Tuesday after being evacuated from her Rancho Bernardo home.
You have to wonder if the last two people just gave up?
