UPDATE 2000 PDT:
The smell of smoke is heavy in the air.
Fire officials are saying that 500 homes have been destroyed, and at least 100 businesses. This on top of the untold damage to the forests and animals.
UPDATE 1800 PDT:
The National Guard in Wyoming is sending planes to support the fire fighting effort. Unfortunately the pencil-pushing-jackasses in California won’t allow them to fly, till all the paper work is done. Morons, they never learn.
Duncan Hunter (R-CA), received his permit to move back into his house that burned 4 years ago. He had to evacuate it today. No doubt 3 of those years were due to bureaucratic bullcrap.
Del Mar is full, and can not take anymore animals.
Oceanside has opened a shelter here.
Active Duty Naval Personnel and dependants can bunk at the Naval Base San Diego. They still have room. Report to the Admiral Prout field house. Godspeed.
UPDATE 1630 PDT:
Chargers are heading to Arizona to practice. No decision on where the Charger game will be played this weekend. Qualcomm Stadium is an evacuation center, and most likely will not be available for a game on Sunday.
It was four years ago this week that fires in San Diego County forced the Chargers to switch a Monday night home game to Tempe, Ariz.

The Chargers said 40 members of the organization, including players and staff, live in areas that have been evacuated. Among those who live in the Poway and Rancho Bernardo area are LaDainian Tomlinson, Shawne Merriman, Shaun Phillips and Luis Castillo.
Mesa Grande Indian Reservation was evacuated. The Govenator is calling in the National Guard. [can't wait to hear how there is not enough of them due to Iraq].
UPDATE 1600 PDT:
I-15 CLOSURE: Interstate 15 is shut down from the scales to Highway 76, at Via Rancho Parkway to Highway 56, between State Route 78 and Ted Williams Parkway and State Route 78 to State Route 163.
Harbison Canyon is being evacuated.

Background: for those who don’t know, the 15 and the 5 are pretty much the only ways out of San Diego other than the ocean, and the airport.
Lee “hacksaw” Hamiliton is on KOGO talking about his fire experiance. It looks like he lost his house and was saved by the reverse 911 system.
San Ysidro fire is contained. It is believed to be arson, and have been set by kids. You can go back to your homes.
UPDATE 1530 PDT: Coronado Hills fire is 100% contained. Finally some good news.
LA county Fire Department has an interactive map of the fires in the LA area
CBS 8 in San Diego has converted to fire coverage only. [if you read this after 22 Oct, it will not show anything other than the regular page]

What Michelle needs to understand (and especially in THIS situation) is that it’s not Iraq that’s depleting our state’s resources so much as the incredible burden of social services this state is supplying to “non-citizens”. Many orders of magnitude more costly.
Poor Californians can’t see the relationship between spending so much money and not having much left over to fight fires with.
Agreed Dave. However mismanagement of our forestry areas is not helping.
In some ares you are not even allowed to clear away brush even though it would save your house. It’s against the law.
Well Mark as a fire fighter who nows lives in WA state. I’m coming back home to San Diego to help stop this monster.
