Testing Live Writer
Apr 26th, 2007 by Mark
Decided to test Windows Live Writer since w.bloggar is not WYSIWYG and Blogjet and Rocketpost are both way overpriced. I have been using Blogdesk, but it has some issues that are annoying.
Is It Better
So it works like MS Office apps. If you have used MS’s coding tools (visual studio) you will recognize the layout. I do like the recent posts feature, as I link back a lot, and need to edit and update frequently.
Issues
So far I don’t see a way to put in the categories to a post. Don’t like that. Oh wait! I just found it. Remembering back to my coding days, it dawned on me where they would stick it. One more reason that MS tools are not the best. Poor layout. They look good! Now I just need to figure out a way to insert pics, and technorati tags.
Bingo images! Post Properties show up at the bottom in wide screen. They include time/date stamp, comment options, trackback options, related URL (what?), and trackbacks. This is an issue that has plagued MS tools for awhile. The editor is a bit slower than native apps, but not too bad.
UPDATE:
There is no support for technorati tags. That sucks. Spell checking does not have an ignore all option. Geez, how moronic is that?
More Update:
When you start a new post, you get another window. WTF? What odd is the post you may want to look at is up in your current editor and it still opens a new window. Sheesh.
Even More Update:
Well I have found a way to insert technorati tags. Testing it now. My biggest complaint about LiveWriter is the obsession that Microsoft has with menus. WTF is wrong with these people? Do they not use their products? Surely they tire of the constant menu-ing that they force upon people. Maybe not.
Technorati tags: microsoft, livewriter, blog, blogging, blogjet, rocketpost, citydesk, w.bloggar, blogdesk
Could you be more specific about your problems with BlogDesk? Nobody ever had any issues with BlogDesk turning off comments and pings…
When I post via blogdesk, even though I have pings and comments checked, it posts as “No Comments”, and I was having to manually reset this on the site. I have tried unchecking, and closing the program then restarting and checking. Nothing works. I have also had some issues with blogdesk suddenly shutting down, when I publish.
Ok, I found the problem. Apparently wordpress.com changed something in their codebase. In a few days I will release a hotfix for BlogDesk to address this problem.
