Is It Gambling or Embezzlement

The Guardian UK — and news 24 — is reporting that China is cracking down on gambling in Macau. Keep in mind that the media is all apoplectic right now about truthful stories being sent to Iraqi news outlets (like how writers get their work out). Just a thought.
Chinese authorities have arrested almost 1.2 million people suspected of illegal betting offences during a nine month crack down, state media reported today.
OK, so they are cracking down on illegal gambling. Well let’s give’em the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they actually are out to stop people taking advantage of those poor people who can’t find a casino in Macau. Hmmm.
The arrests were part of a nationwide anti-gambling campaign from January to September in which police seized £166m and investigated 163,000 cases.
Oh so it’s an attack upon gambling? In Asia? This sounds odd.
The crack down was aimed mainly at preventing public officials from gambling away public money in Macau, the small special administrative region in southern China that is becoming known as the “Las Vegas of Asia”
Wait, so now it’s government officials who are embezzling money that they oppose? How is that a gambling offense?
More than 8,740 members of the ruling Communist party were punished for gambling between January and October, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
Shouldn’t this be the main thrust of the article? The corruption of the Chinese government seems to be the story. Of course then again maybe this is a planted story to make people think the Chinese are actively rooting out corruption in government. This of course begs the question, how to socialist have morals as they are God-less?
He said 30 gambling agencies linked to overseas casinos and 19 underground banks were closed this year in an effort to deter cross-border gambling.
Are they referring to “bookies” and “loan sharks”?
As part of its crack down, Beijing has stiffened penalties for the misuse of public funds and urged Macau to tighten its identity checks.
Crack down on what? Gambling or Embezzlement? Macau is booming due to gambling. It is also known as a haven for the underbelly of society.
It is obvious that China is not doing very well at controlling it’s people. They are getting a taste of the Western way, and they like it. They like it so much so it is driving people to risk years in prison to enjoy it. Not sure how much longer China can continue to live this dual existence.
It is also clear that they are not truthful, and the media are willing accomplices in their lies.
Seems odd that China can spin all it wants, and the US can not put out the truth. The Guardian UK is an anti-American and very liberal paper, BTW.
