This is silly.

Is It About Race
The National Italian American Foundation (NAIF) is upset about Alito, sometimes being referred to as Scalito. They assume, as do many racially focused groups that it is all about race.
They said this:
We are justly proud of Justice Alito’s Italian heritage and his sterling academic and judicial records as well as his impeccable integrity. However, he should be considered as an individual. In honor of the memory of the just departed Rosa Parks the Senate champions of civil rights should insist that Judge Alito be considered only on his extraordinary merits.
Why are you so concerned about his ‘heritage’? If you want to focus on his achievements, then do it. You are Americans, he is an American; you should be proud as an American.
His achievements are due to being American. Being brought up in an Italian family may have given him the tools, but being an American gave him the opportunity to succeed. That should be the focus.
Appropriately, no one mentioned that Justice Breyer was Jewish or suggested that he was lock-step ideologically with the other Jewish Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, it would have been outrageous to do so. We still do not know Justice Robert’s ethnicity.
Sorry I just don’t see the connection. I for one am a little tired of this race/ethnic over-sensitivity. This may be a slur, however it was a slur on his Conservatism and not his ethnicity. They are probably trying to portray him as a Conservative clone, not and Italian one.
Is it possible that those Senators, and media types who used this phrase were using in a derogatory fashion? Yes, and if they were it was an attack on his Conservatism, not his ethnicity.
I love criticizing the left wing media and anyone in government, they do so deserve it. However, on this I just don’t see it as a problem. It appears to be merely an attempt to link one judge to another judge based upon their philosophy not race. This is nothing new. A comparison made with a play on words.
The Media is Just Sick
Sadly the media may be proving the NAIF is correct, or they may just be hateful spiteful people. Hmmm, closet racists or closet liberals.
CBSNEWS Chief White House correspondent John Roberts described the President’s selection of Judge Samuel Alito as “sloppy seconds” during today’s press gaggle with White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan.
John Roberts: “So, Scott, you said that — or the President said, repeatedly, that Harriet Miers was the best person for the job. So does that mean that Alito is sloppy seconds, or what?”
Scott McClellan: “Not at all, John.”
That is pretty sick. Clearly shows the mentality of the elite media. Hate, and nothing but hate; displayed through derogatory and disgusting phrases. Are the networks not able to hire quality people anymore?
