Alito gets the nod.

Samuel A. Alito, Jr. gets the nod. Hugh Hewit (da’ man) has a lenghty post on this, and some excellant ideas on how to short circuit the Dems hate attack.
WASHINGTON — Judge Samuel Alito of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in New Jersey is emerging as a leading candidate to be the next nominee for the Supreme Court, conservative activists said yesterday.
Alito, 55, a conservative sometimes called “Scalito” because his record is similar to that of Justice Antonin Scalia, would win support from the right but Democrats and liberal activists have long said he would run into tough Democratic opposition.
U.S. Sen John Cornyn says:
“The President has chosen a well qualified nominee for our nation’s highest court. It is clear that Judge Alito is a man of outstanding character, who is deeply committed to public service, and has a distinguished history of professional achievement and leadership.
C.N.N. says hefty legal resume. They note that Scalia actually quoted Alito in a Spousal Notification case.
Harry Reid does not like him, he must be o.k.!
But Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) warned that a nomination of Alito, or any other candidates too far to the right, could run into trouble.
“This is not one of the names I’ve suggested to the president,” Reid said yesterday of Alito on CNN’s “Late Edition.”
“In fact, I’ve done the opposite,” he said. “I think it would create a lot of problems.”
Well gee thanks Harry ol’ boy. I suppose we should take you at your word? Let’s see, your pick causes Bush to lose his base; so now you want him to do it again? Color us stupid! I think not. Unbelievable.
Does Harry think anyone is taking him seriously with all this nonsense he keeps bilging? Sadly, yes.
I would have preferred Luttig, Janice Rogers Brown, or Priscilla Owens. The last two would have been “in your face” type of picks. Luttig would have made the looney left apoplectic. They all would have led to big fights that the Dems can not win and wold show them as they are, hate filled, negative, and small-minded.
Maybe Bush and Mrs. Bush, since they suddenly are a team; are finally getting it? (Eleanor Clift actually intimated it was disrespectful of the right to not back Miers. Dim-wit) I hope this was a bitter pill to swallow so he remembers it for a long, long time. He has a lot to make up for, after the Miers stupidity. Sadly she is the one took the worst of it.
